Mutarakez Fancied to Double Up at Pontefract

Whenever a horse like Mutarakez is tipped up it should certainly come with a warning, so here it is. This horse has won four times in his career total of 34 races, and three of those were in his first four races. That leaves him at one win from his last 30 runs, he is not one to be fully trusted and certainly hard to win with. However, this time last year, Ruth Carr and James Sullivan worked their magic to get this lad in front in this exact race, and I am more than happy to back them to do it again.

We all now know what kind of horse this is, he isn’t one to be going in all guns blazing putting big bets on, but that doesn’t stop him from being a bet here. When he won this race last season he did so by half a length, coming from well off the pace to do it too, which seems to be his preferred running style. Perhaps more importantly than all of that, he comes here to try and do it again off a four pound lower mark this time around.

The field this season is not as big, so he won’t need as much luck in running, although he will need a strong gallop to be seen at his best. This isn’t a track that favours those coming from the back too much, but the hill finish will slow down his rivals and allow him to catch up to them near the end. I thought he ran a nice race at Nottingham on reappearance, and that should put him perfect for this one, which will no doubt have been the long term target over the winter period.

There are many things to think about with this horse, he is certainly not straight forward and one to fully trust. However, there is also plenty going for him here, and I’m siding with Ruth Carr and James Sullivan to pull off another masterstroke by getting Mutarakez to win at Pontefract in this race for the second year in a row.
