Group Horse Robin Of Navan Fancied to go Close in Handicap Company

The Royal Hunt Cup is one of the most difficult races to solve across the entire five days of the Royal Ascot meeting, but that doesn’t stop me from fancying Robin Of Navan to run a huge race in it on Wednesday afternoon. This horse was once a group performer, in fact if you go back to last year he has some top class form to his name.

Last time out was the first time we had seen him in a handicap for a long time and he was very unlucky, being completely denied a clear run on numerous occasions. He finished well back, but there was plenty of promise there from him, and signs that he is more than capable of winning a race like this off his current mark. Prior to that he finished third at this course behind Barney Roy, who contested the Group One Queen Anne yesterday and Zaaki, a horse who I think will be contesting Group One races shortly. That is a rock solid piece of form, and compared to those he is up against here, that is a different level and something that makes him of real interest.

Of course if you go through the field here you will find a number of runners who look well handicapped on old form, and capable of coming back to life here. However, this horse is a little different as not only does he look well in but last time out he showed plenty of promise, with more the time before that. We are not talking about a horse who has dropped in the weights because of a big dip in form, we are talking about one that has ran well on both of his last two starts.

This looks an almost impossible race to solve, but I am more than happy to chance Robin Of Navan here. He is proved when there is a little cut in the ground, which he gets and hopefully with this big field spreading all the way across the track he won’t run into the traffic problems he suffered last time we saw him at a racecourse.
