Beringer the Best Bet at Newmarket on Thursday

When you think of horses that appear to have a great chance in a one mile handicap then Alan King is probably not the first trainer you think of. He has a handful of flat horses to keep him going through the summer, and Beringer performed very well for him last season, and I think he is going to be even better this season.

We saw him campaigned over 1m2f last year, which stretched him a little, but this season it looks as though the plan is to run him over a mile. He came back this season running in the Lincoln, and was held up at the back of the field before being brought through for a run. He came through well and he finished third that day, which was a very good run behind what looks sure to be a group racer who won the first big handicap of the season.

I think the Lincoln form is going to work out this year, it seemed to be a strong race, with a good gallop and a fair result. There is a chance that Beringer could have got a little closer with a slightly easier passage, although there is no chance he would have got close to the winner.

This race has a field of just 8 going to post if they all stand their ground, and that is certainly going to help Beringer. He has enough horses to get some cover in behind and track the pace, while there is not too many for him to navigate a tough path through.

The Alan King trained horse ran well last season, he ran even better on the first day of this season in the Lincoln, and now I think it is his turn to strike and win a race. I fancy Beringer to take the 3:35 today at Newmarket.
