Can Sheepscar Lad Finally Land First Win this Season?

It appears as though Sheepscar Lad is right on the cusp of a win. He has been running well recently, placing on his last three runs and two of those came here over this course and distance. On Wednesday he tries again, in what looks to be a slightly lower quality race with a smaller field, and that could be the difference and what gets him home in front for a deserved success.

Looking back to last season, and even the start of this season, there is no doubt that this horse is incredibly well handicapped. He runs today off a mark of 70, placing off 70, 69 and 71 in his last three runs. However, at the start of this season he was rated much higher, beginning life off 80 and he spent the whole of last season running off marks in the 80s, winning once.

If things all click into place for Sheepscar Lad, then he is going to pick up a win soon there is no doubt about that. The three place efforts have come in slightly better races and his two at this course have come in 13 and 15 runner fields. Today he runs in a six runner race, giving him the room he needs to get home in front I think.

If there is one slight concern then it is the ground, he is usually seen to better effect on slower ground, but that isn’t to say that he can’t run on a quicker surface like this one.

Despite the ground concern, this is a horse that needs backing here because of the mark he is currently on. Sheepscar Lad has been backed into favouritism in all three of his last runs, he is on the radar of many people and I expect to see the same again here, but this time hopefully with a winning result.
