Dream Of Dreams to Join Elite by Winning July Cup
Dream Of Dreams was inches away from winning the Group One Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, eventually going down by a head to Blue Point. He has a second chance to win his first Group One race here in the July Cup at Newmarket and this is a chance that I don’t think he is going to waste.
2018 was fairly quiet for this horse, but in 2019 we have seen him really come to life and show the kind of level he could be at. He won twice before going to Royal Ascot, winning a conditions race at Chelmsford and a listed race at Windsor to warm up for the big one.
The race didn’t quite fall his way at Royal Ascot, Blue Point certainly got the first run on him and powered away, leaving Dream Of Dreams unable to catch him in the end. Despite that, it was still a very impressive run and that sets the form standard here. If he can replicate that run from the Diamond Jubilee then I don’t think there is anything else in this field that can run to that kind of level.
The biggest danger in the race is likely to be the three year old Advertise, who won the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, which is the big Group One sprint for three year olds. That was an impressive run but he goes up against his elders here and that presents a whole new challenge for him. Ten Sovereigns was spoken about as a superstar from the Ballydoyle team at the beginning of this season, but followed his poor Guineas run up with a poor run behind Advertise in the Commonwealth Cup. I’m not sure they have any idea what trip is his best, but if he ever puts a run together that they think he is capable of then he would of course be of interest too.
However, I think they will all be looking forward and seeing Dream Of Dreams in front of them in this one, with that horse landing the Group One title that he came so close to picking up at Royal Ascot. The run in the Diamond Jubilee is the best sprinting form on offer here and a reproduction of that will see him very hard to beat.
