Eeh Bah Gum Fancied to Excel in York Sprint
You don’t have to go back in the form book to find a last recent run at York for Eeh Bah Gum, who ran in a sprint handicap at the track just nine days ago. That race featured plenty of today’s runners, but Eeh Bah Gum was the one that certainly stood out, and he looks worth following today.
The winner of that race was Copper Knight who also runs again here, although this will not be as straight forward. He has 5lb extra to carry in this race, and won’t get the run of things like he did last time. His stable mate Eeh Bah Gum cannot say the same about his run at York, even without the weight difference I would fancy him to get close but the 5lb makes him even more appealing.
Last time out, Eeh Bah Gum was drawn poorly and to make his challenge he had to come wide around horses. Not only did that leave him running on his own for the final furlong or two, but it also put him out on the unfavoured ground. We saw few horses come out on that ground and win over the three days of that meeting, and I think you can mark up Eeh Bah Gum because of that.
He is drawn closer to the middle and should be able to get come cover before coming with a late run here, so I am expecting to see much more from him. He certainly knows where the finishing line is, with five wins in 2018 as he worked his way through the handicap ranks. Trainer Tim Easterby has always said that the horse would make a better four year old, which bodes very well for his future.
Last time out was a pretty positive run for Eeh Bah Gum, but he didn’t get the run of things. Now he returns with a better draw, and a pull at the weights and all of that points to a big run from this sprinter on Saturday.
