Oh This Is Us Set to Come Out on Top in Listed Ganton Stakes
The listed Ganton Stakes on Friday at York looks to be a very hot contest for the grade and one horse in it who looks capable of running at a higher level is Oh This Is Us. He has ran very well to finish second on his last two starts, both against horses who are group horses and this may be his chance to strike before he moves up in class himself.
The horse won the mile race on All Weather Championships day at Lingfield to set his season up and after that was thrown in the deep end a little by running in a Group Two. Since then he has finished 2nd in two different listed races, with the most recent being his best run so far, behind the hugely impressive Zaaki who looks destined for bigger and better things this season.
The level of form he has shown would win any listed race pretty much anywhere else in the country but this is a strong renewal, and he is going to have to be at his best to take this, which I think he will be.
Of his opponents, Sir Dancealot holds some of the best form in the race but one mile on soft ground is going to test him to the limits and I don’t think he will quite get home here. Had this race been over seven furlongs, he would certainly have been of interest.
Happy Power looks to be a progressive three year old but is coming up against older horses here and this is early in the season for that to be happening. He looks a nice type, but against his elders he is not for me here.
Wadilsafa looked a star in the making at times last year but a very disappointing run kick started his campaign this season. He may still progress but he has to show something on the track before I back him again. Raakib Alhawa rounds off the field here, and looks to be slightly out of his depth in this field. A regular listed race may be within his grasp, but not one as good as this.
All of that leads me back to Oh This Is Us, who has ran two very good races recently and bumped into two good rivals who are going places. I’m not sure he gets that here, there are question marks over the others even though this is a very good contest for the grade. I’ll take him to land a deserved success before he more than likely steps up into group company for the rest of the summer.
