Politologue the Each Way Alternative to Superstar Altior
It should be worth noting here that I think Altior is the clear best horse in the Champion Chase, and I do think he wins the title again. However, at the price he is, he can win it for me without a penny on, I will simply sit back and enjoy watching him win. Those looking for an each way bet in the race may be best off looking towards the Paul Nicholls trained Politologue, who comes back to two miles for this.
The yard have tried to turn him into a two and a half or even a three mile horse, and I don’t quite think that is for him at the top level, as we have seen this year. Here he drops back to two miles and when you look back at some of his form over two miles, he is clearly the second best horse in the race.
He will handle the soft ground we get too, and plenty of his form from last year is on soft. At his best last season he beat Min at Aintree, won the Tingle Creek at Sandown and finished four lengths behind Altior in the Game Spirit at Newbury. All of those form lines make his price of 25/1, from an each way point of view, simply far too big to ignore.
I am not saying that this horse wins the Champion Chase, but at 25/1 he is plenty big enough to back each way in the hope of finishing second or third. His form from last season gives him a great chance, and I am more than happy to go in with him and back him at a big price.
